Equality and inclusivity are topics close to our hearts, not only in the context of our projects. Naturally, we enthusiastically agreed when asked to participate in the City of Mannheim’s equality action plan.

By signing the “European Charter for Equality of Women and Men at Local Level” (EU Charter), the city of Mannheim committed itself to actively using its different roles and responsibilities to specifically promote equality between women and men within the administration as well as work towards society as a whole.

The City of Mannheim’s equality action plan focuses on employment and equality, areas women are still disadvantaged in many respects. The city has identified a total of eight fields of action.

Last year, Jennifer Moss from our Mannheim office had the opportunity to be part of the expert group discussing ideas and developing projects in the field of “promoting women’s digital skills for work 4.0”. The result of the work is three projects:

Digital SHEroes

for girls and young women before choosing a career

The project aims to increase the proportion of girls and young women interested in jobs in the IT sector by introducing them to speakers and role models who are very familiar with various aspects of the digital sector and pass on their enthusiasm.

What is TECH?

for young professionals, students and academics

Practical events provide insight into technical professions to offer a simple and inspiring introduction to dealing with new technologies through input and mutual exchange.

Wikigirls

for girls from the age of 15 and young women in the career decision phase with little or no experience and digital skills

The project aims to increase the visibility of women on Wikipedia. Two birds are killed with one stone when the participants create entries on the role of different women in overall social processes through concept development, research and writing Wikipedia articles and thus learn how to use wiki systems.

The municipal council passed the equality action plan in Mannheim on October 5, 2021. The first step towards implementation of the European charter for equality between women and men at the municipal and regional level in Mannheim. We are proud that we were able to participate and look forward to the realization of the projects.

All fields of action and their results can be viewed in the Equal Opportunities Action Plan of the City of Mannheim and downloaded as a PDF.
